Disappointment: when things don't turn out as hoped
The trip is rained out, the present isn't the one they wanted. Disappointment is quiet, and it still hurts.

What's behind this feeling
Disappointment shows how much your child wished for something. The bigger the hope, the bigger the flop.
What can help
Don't rush to comfort or explain it away. First let it be said: "That's rubbish." Then think together about what could be nice instead.
What the book says
These texts appear exactly like this on the double page. Read them aloud while your child colors.

This is Flop, the disappointment unicorn. Flop shows up when you were looking forward to something and then it does not happen – and the air goes out of you like out of a balloon.
The questions
Where do you feel Flop? Are your shoulders heavy? Does your tummy feel empty all of a sudden? What were you excited about once – and then it turned out differently?
The trick: The backup plan
Say it out loud: This is no fun. That is allowed. Then think together: what would be a small treat for today – and when can we catch up on the big thing?
