Fear: when your child is scared
In the dark, the coat on the hook looks like a monster, and that dog is so big. Fear is part of every childhood.

What's behind this feeling
Fear wants to protect. It makes sure you're careful – even if it sometimes overdoes it.
What can help
Take the fear seriously, even if the reason seems small to you. Look at the scary thing together, ideally with a light. Most of the time it's just a coat.
What the book says
These texts appear exactly like this on the double page. Read them aloud while your child colors.

This is Shivers, the fear unicorn. Shivers shows up when something is spooky or new – then it makes itself very small and you very awake. Shivers wants to protect you: it makes sure you stay careful.
The questions
Where do you feel Shivers? Is your heart beating fast? Are your legs going wobbly? What were you afraid of once – and how did it turn out?
The trick: The flashlight
Fear does not like light. Look at the spooky thing closely, together with a grown-up – most of the time it is just a jacket. And Shivers turns tiny again.
