Surprise: when things turn out completely different
Pop – and suddenly everything is different. Surprises can be wonderful or startling, and for kids the two are often hard to tell apart.

What's behind this feeling
Surprise is the fastest feeling. It lasts only a moment and then switches to something else: joy, a scare, laughter.
What can help
Give the moment after some room: "That came out of nowhere, didn't it?" And try it the other way round: surprise someone together with something kind.
What the book says
These texts appear exactly like this on the double page. Read them aloud while your child colors.

This is Pop, the surprise unicorn. Pop shows up when something happens that you did not expect at all – then it goes POP and your eyes grow round as marbles.
The questions
Where do you feel Pop? Do your eyes grow big? Does your heart do a little skip? What surprised you the most lately?
The trick: A good surprise
Surprise someone today with something kind – a drawing or a big hug. Shhh, do not tell!
